Today is my last day at Target. This afternoon I’ll hand in my ID badge and employee discount card. You can probably guess which I’ll miss more.
Tonight my bar-completed husband and I will make our way to Coldstone and a movie.
Tomorrow morning we’ll get up (when we want to) and leave our house (when we feel like it) and drive to Door County. We may find an interesting restaurant or antique shop or cornfield along the way and decide to stop. We’ll sleep somewhere, have ice cream somewhere, and get a cup of coffee somewhere (not because we need the caffeine, but because we like drinking it together).
When we arrive at our vacation spot, we’ll sleep and read and sit by the pool and go to a fish boil on the shores of Lake Michigan. We’ll go to my first-ever drive-in movie. We’ll just be together. We’ll rest. August is all about rest.
I love the fact that we are planning to have no plans. Maybe we’ll fly to Chicago for the weekend. Maybe we’ll go to Wisconsin Dells. Maybe we’ll live in our pajamas for five days straight and watch movies and never leave the house.
We’ll come back eventually, of course. I have grad school orientation and he has a job to do. But that’s for later.
For now, I’m going to bask in the fact that it is a time for rest and rejuvenation and romance.
Enjoy your August. Eat late-summer peaches and read a good book and browse through the school supply section (at Target, if you have a choice).
Next time we talk, I’ll be a rested woman in desperate need of fashion advice for my first day of school as a *GULP* instructor of my very own class at a public university! AHH! Help!
